Three bukluran leaders won the Diocese of Novaliches Basic Ecclesial Communities (BEC Nova) Gawad His Excellency Antonio R. Tobias, D.D. Bukluran Leader Award (HEARTNova) during the Diocesan Culminating Activity for the Year of the Parish as Communion of Communities held in the MRB Covered Court of Barangay Commonwealth, Q.C. last November 11, 2017.
The Most Rev. Antonio R. Tobias, DD himself led the very simple awarding ceremonies staged prior to the Final Blessing of the Culminating Activity’s Holy Mass. Anita Ducusin of St. Francis Xavier Parish, Leonie Morano of San Roque Parish, and Carmelita Panganiban of Mother of Divine Providence Parish were awarded by the Bishop as Gawad HEART Bukluran Leader Award, Gawad HEART Parish BEC Coordinator, Gawad HEART Parish BEC Co-Coordinator, respectively.
The three leaders were part of the Final Six Nominees for Gawad HEART prior to winning the prestigious competition. The rest of the Final Six Nominees–Eufracia R. Cruz of Mother of the Redeemer, Ernesto Costoy of San Roque Parish and Myrna Devera of St. Maximillian Kolbe Parish–were given Certificates of Appreciation by the Bishop during the ceremonies.
According to Diocesan BEC Lay Coordinator Joe Mar Maulion, the winners were judged for their six years of service as bukluran or kawan leaders, particularly in terms of having a good service record and in working for the plight of the poor in their communities. He added that this competition will inspire them to work more for their communities.
“This will give them more room to serve the People of God,” he said during an interview held after the Holy Mass.
A total of thirty-six nominees were enlisted by sixteen (16) parishes of the Diocese to BEC Nova for the Gawad HEART. A first round of elimination took place through a Phase 1 Judging lead by the Diocesan BEC HEXA Team who selected two (2) bukluran leaders and and kawan leaders per BEC district in the Diocese.
The said BEC Districts are Commonwealth, Tandang Sora, and Caloocan, which actually encompasses the entire District 1 Caloocan City area of the Diocese. The bukluran leaders were chosen on the basis of the requirements they have submitted in line with their nomination as per the Critera for Judging in the Awards’ Mechanics.
The Phase 1 Judging Winners aka Final Six Nominees then had a one-on-one interview with Diocesan BEC Development Officer Benjamin II L. Custodio, Diocesan BEC Religious Coordinator Sr, Christina Pranata, and BEC HEXA Team Member Rev. Fr. Percy Tayem, Ofm.
The interview focused on the five aspects or characteristics of the Bishop as a leader concucted from the initials of his name in line with HEARTNova or Gawad HEART as per Mechanics: H – Handa (Ever Ready), E – Empatiko (Emphatic), A – Aktibo (Active), R – Responsable (Responsible), and mapagkakaTiwalaan. (Trustrworthy).
Designed to honor the Bishop’s legacy in the Diocese, Gawad HEART was one of the three award-giving bodies created by BEC Nova for the Year of the Parish as Communion of Communities in partnership with the Diocesan Social Communications and Media Ministry (SocComm Nova). Winners of the other two awards were also announced during the whole-day Culminating Activity that was attended by almost five thousand people from the 69 Parishes of the Diocese. (~Dianne Tam)
